Quarterly
BARNN/BANPAC Meetings
Each quarter, the
members of the Bay Area Nutrition and Physical
Activity Collaborative (BANPAC) along with the
Network for a Healthy California--Bay
Area Region (BARNN) staff and
program partners gather for an all day meeting and
training. Recent trainings have focused on Food
Security and Built Environment.
PA
Specialist & PA Forums
The Region’s Physical Activity
Specialist conducts physical activity trainings for
community-based organizations on an ongoing basis.
In addition, each year BARNN and BANPAC members and
partners, along with many other Bay Area nutrition
and physical activity organizations participate in
an all day Physical Activity Forum spearheaded by
BARNN’s Physical Activity Specialist.
LIA Trainings
Twice each year, BARNN
conducts full day trainings for the Local Incentive
Awardees.
The focus of the trainings is determined by the LIAs
themselves. Prior trainings have covered media
skills and competency and how to build and maintain
successful coalitions.
Latino Toolbox
Trainings
The
Network for a
Healthy California--Latino Campaign and Physical Activity Toolbox trainings are
available free of charge to community educators to
teach low-income Latino adults about eating the
recommended amount of fruits and vegetables and
incorporating physical activity into each and every
day.
Power Play - School & CYO Trainings
The Network for a Healthy California--Children’s Power Play! Campaign
conducts trainings for schools and community youth
organizations on how to incorporate healthy kid
activities into the classroom and after school
programs. These trainings include information on
fun-filled activities like the Nutrition Decathlon
as well as information on how Power Play helps
schools meet their wellness policy objectives.
Food Demonstrations
The African American, Latino, Retail and
Power Play Campaigns conduct food demonstrations at
grocery stores, and flea and farmers’ markets across
the Bay Area. The food demonstrations provide
valuable information about preparing quick and
healthy meals and provide consumers with the skills
needed to purchase and to prepare healthy food.
Consumers are able to taste recipes, see the
ingredients prepared, and encouraged to purchase the
recipe contents all in one location. In addition,
participants receive free cookbooks and
incentive items, including t-shirts, cooking
colanders, and canvas grocery bags.
Worksite Assessment
A key component of the California Worksite Program
is the Check for Health assessment. Working in
conjunction with participating businesses, the Worksite
Program Coordinator conducts a comprehensive
evaluation of the worksite environment. Areas of
focus include, Health Promotion Programs and
Services, Food Environment, Physical Activity
Environment, and Health Norms and Values. Once
completed, the assessment provides guidance for the
implementation and development of a worksite program
particular to the needs of each participating
business.
