Bay
Area Region :: Physical Activity Program
Key Objectives
The key objective of the Network for a Healthy
California--Bay Area Region Physical Activity
Program is to
integrate physical activity into the Campaigns and to work with community partners,
the media and others to promote physical activity
and healthy eating among low-income adults and
children across the Bay Area. The Physical
Activity Program emphasizes the key role of
active living to developing healthy lifestyles. The
Program promotes physical activity as an essential
component to combating chronic diseases such as
heart diseases, cancer, diabetes, obesity, and
arthritis across all ages and communities.
Key Activities
The Physical Activity Program provides
information, referral, physical activity
demonstrations and one-on-one technical assistance
to ensure that physical activity is integrated into
nutrition programming throughout the Region. Through
presentations at health forums such as the African
American Empowerment Forum and Latino Bi National
Cultural Activities, local community workshops such
as the Oakland Parks and Recreation Healthy Senior
Series, neighborhood and school events such as
Spring Into Health and October Walk to School
Activities and other community outreach efforts, the
Program increases awareness and provides concrete
direction for increasing physical activity among all
low-income populations.
