Nutrition Resources
The Bay Area Region provides a wealth of nutrition resources to organizations across the Bay Area.  These resources are made available to schools, community youth organizations, grocery stores, and other organizations that serve the Bay Area’s low-income communities.  Key nutrition resources include the following:

  • African American Campaign and Physical Activity Toolbox
    The African American Campaign and Physical Activity Toolbox is available free of charge to community educators to teach low-income African American adults about eating the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables and how to incorporate physical activity into each and every day.
  • African American Campaign and Physical Activity Toolbox Trainings
    To facilitate the use of the Toolbox among low-income community educators, the African American Campaign conducts Toolbox trainings free of charge, on an ongoing basis.

Children’s Power Play! Campaign
School Resources

  • School Idea & Resource Mini Kit - A teacher's guide filled with 17 fun fruit & vegetable activities that can be incorporated into subjects across the curriculum.
  • Kids…Get Cookin'! Cookbooks. This full-color, bilingual cookbook for kids features delicious fruit & vegetable recipes with celebrity photos and colorful graphics. Each child receives his/her own cookbook.
  • Brochures for parents
  • Fruits and Vegetables—Children's Power Play! brochures (English/Spanish) for children to take home
  • Booklets (English/Spanish) to introduce children to the Food Guide Pyramid, and to challenge them to eat healthy

Community Youth Organization Resources
A key Children's Power Play! resource for CYOs is the Community Youth Organization Idea & Resource Kit. This kit includes the following items:

  • CYO Leaders Guide
  • Activities related to after school and community youth programs
  • Rap Cassette Tape
  • Fruit & Vegetable Rap, with lyrics included - combines music that appeals to kids with a positive, healthy message

School & CYO Trainings & Technical Assistance
The Children's Power Play! Campaign conducts trainings for Schools and Community Youth Organizations on how to incorporate healthy kid activities into the classroom and after school programs.  These trainings include information on fun-filled activities like the Nutrition Decathlon as well as information on how Children's Power Play! helps schools meet their wellness policy objectives.

Farmers’ Markets
The Children's Power Play! Campaign partners with and supports Farmers’ Markets that serve low-income communities.  Children's Power Play! provides Farmers’ Markets with fun, interactive fruit and vegetable activities and materials for kids and parents, including:

  • Signs and posters
  • Games and contests for kids
  • Educational materials and incentive items for kids and parents
  • Cooking demonstrations

Grocery Stores
Children's Power Play! provides grocery stores with materials, including in store signage.  In addition, the Children's Power Play! Campaign also conducts fruit and vegetable demonstrations and tastings.  Further, the Children's Power Play! Campaign helps to arrange store tours for school children.

Retail Program
The Retail Program provides retailers in low-income communities with free merchandising materials as well as free food demonstrations.

  • Floor Stand Display Kit
    This bilingual (English & Spanish) kit for low-income area stores contains a floor stand display, logo posters, and recipe and seasonality cards available in Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter themes.
  • Retail Merchandising Kit
    This bilingual (English & Spanish) kit for low-income area stores contains logo posters and recipe and seasonality cards available in Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter themes.

Food Demonstrations
The Retail Program conducts food demonstrations at participating grocery stores throughout the Bay Area.  The food demonstrations provide valuable information about preparing quick and healthy meals and provides consumers with the skills needed to purchase and prepare healthy food.  Consumers are able to taste recipes, see the ingredients prepared, and encouraged to purchase the recipe contents all in one location.  In addition, participants receive free cookbooks and incentive items, including t-shirts, cooking colanders, and canvas grocery bags.

Worksite Program
The Worksite Program helps low-income worksites throughout the Bay Area develop and implement their own employee wellness program.  Toward this effort the Program provides low-income worksites with free nutrition education resources, including the California Fit Business Kit and the Take Action! Employee Wellness Program.

Nutrition and Physical Activity Resource Guides
A Nutrition and Physical Activity Resource Guide for each county in the Bay Area is now available.  The resource guides provide a listing of the parks, recreation centers, gyms, and other recreational resources in communities across the Bay Area.  The resource guides also provide a listing of the WIC programs, Food Assistance Programs, Nutrition Programs and other nutrition resources in each County.  The Resource Guides for the following six counties are as follows:

Bay Area Nutrition and Physical Activity Collaborative (BANPAC)

Healthy Vending Machine Toolkit
In an effort to assist organizations and communities develop and implement healthy vending machine policies, BANPAC has created the Healthy Vending Machine Toolkit.  This Toolkit provides help with Assessment, Policy Development, and Evaluation. It also provides key information on Lessons Learned.
