Bay
Area Region :: Latino Campaign
Key Objectives
The Latino Campaign partners with community based
organizations, grocery stores, health care
providers, the media and others to empower
low-income Latino adults and their families to
consume the recommended amount of fruits and
vegetables and to enjoy physical activity every day.
The Campaign also works with communities throughout
the Bay Area to create environments where these
behaviors are socially supported and accessible. The
Campaign objectives are designed to reduce the risks
of chronic diseases, especially cancer, heart
disease, diabetes, and obesity within the Latino
community.
Key Activities
The Latino Campaign reaches out to Food Stamp eligible Latino
adults with school-aged children at a variety of
events, including farmers’/flea markets, large
festivals, and at supermarkets and neighborhood
grocery stores. Participants at these events receive
free nutrition education information and materials
as well as special incentive items (t-shirts, canvas
grocery bags, cooking colanders, cutting boards,
etc.) to reinforce Campaign messages. In addition,
fruit and vegetable demonstrations and tastings are
conducted at the farmer’s/flea markets and at the
supermarkets and grocery stores.

Calendar of Events
For a listing of the Bay Area
2007 Latino Campaign events and activities,
including our food demonstrations, please see our
Latino Campaign Calendar of Events.
Partnerships
The Campaign aligns with
organizations across the Bay Area that work with and
within the Latino community. If you would like to find out about partnering
with the Bay Area Latino Campaign, please
contact Pamela Harter, Latino Campaign Coordinator, at 408.792.5130.
Latino
Campaign
Advisory Committee
One of the objectives of the
Latino Campaign is to work directly with
Latino community leaders to help enhance the health
and well-being of the Latino community. Toward this
effort, the Campaign has formed a
Latino
Campaign
Advisory
Committee. For more
information about this committee, please contact
Pamela Harter at 408.792.5130.

Toolbox for Community Educators
The Toolbox is available free of charge to
qualifying community educators to teach low-income
Latino adults about eating the recommended amount of
fruits and vegetables and incorporating physical
activity into each and every day. Each item in the
Toolbox has been tested within the Latino community. Although the Toolbox is geared toward Latino adults,
many of the components can be used with children and
other adult audiences.

Toolbox Training
To facilitate the use of the Toolbox among
low-income community educators, the Latino
Campaign conducts Toolbox trainings free of charge
to qualifying partners, on an ongoing basis. If you
would like to provide a Toolbox training for your
team, please contact Pamela Harter, the Latino
Campaign
Coordinator at 408.792.5130.
Toolbox Tracking & Forms
If you have participated in a Toolbox training,
please be sure to report back to the Latino
Campaign
via the Toolbox Tracking Form about the
trainings that you have conducted in your community.
You can either download the Tracking Form and send
to us by mail or fax or submit the form online.
Volunteer Opportunities
The Latino Campaign is looking for
volunteers who can help us reach out to the Latino
Community with the Campaign messages and program
activities. If you would like to support this work
in any way, please contact Pamela Harter at
408.792.5130.
